Pretoria Boys High School held its 24th annual Café Concert entitled Café del Opera from 25 to 27 March.
The three evening performances were very well supported, with a sellout audience on the final night.
When asked about the Café Concert, organiser and head of the music department Dr Niel van der Watt said, “Our philosophy at PBHS is that group music-making is the best way to experience the full value of learning to play a musical instrument, and as a result we develop as many musical groups as we can”.
He said that the school offered lessons for 14 different instruments.
“The following groups performed at the Café Concert: symphony orchestra, choir, big band, dixie band, clarinet choir, saxophone quartet, guitar quartet, string quartet and the salon ensemble.”
Each group performed one or two items, while guests enjoyed a light meal.
Highlights of the concert were Baby Elephant Walk by the clarinet choir, Breakfast in America by the dixie band, Black and White by the choir and Overture to the Phantom of the Opera by the orchestra.
